After spending 12 years in England, Mareks Sadauskis has returned to Latvia and for the past two years has called Ludza his home.

“In my youth, I simply wanted to see what lies beyond Latvia. I wanted to explore the world and gain experience. Now I can say – it was worth it! Today I have settled in and adapted. It feels good, truly good. If you ask me what makes Latvia special, I would say it is freedom. We have nature, warm-hearted people, and a culture that truly matters.”

At first, the plan was to go to England for just a couple of years, but life took its own course, and those years turned into twelve. It was there that Mareks met his wife, and now they live together in Ludza – a place that has become their shared home.

“Returning wasn’t easy. I had to relearn how to understand Latvia – its culture, people, and mindset. After living in another country, that is a real challenge. But to truly integrate, you also have to return emotionally – to reconnect with what Latvia was and what it has become today.

When I came back, there were many uncertainties – where to live, how to arrange documents, how the system works. I went through it all myself and realised: I can help others! I assist people in finding housing, dealing with property matters, and I act as a bridge between people and Latvia.”

Mareks’ message is clear:

“If you are thinking about returning – do it! And bring your experience with you. That is how we can make Latvia better. I inspire others with what I have learned, and I have realised – Latvia is my place.”
