Vidzeme continues the event series “Visiting the Returnees”, which aims to introduce people who, after living abroad, have chosen to return to Latvia and develop their ideas in the region. The second meeting took place in Augstūja – a place with a unique atmosphere and creative spirit, where guests were welcomed by Linda and Luis.
Around 20 participants from different generations attended the event. Throughout the day, guests had the opportunity not only to learn about the story of Augstūja, but also to experience the unique atmosphere of the place and take part in several shared activities.
Augstūja is a place with a strong creative and free-spirited character. In the manor building, a new business project is gradually being developed – a space for meditation sessions, retreats, and various events. The hosts are carefully restoring the historic building step by step, also with the support of the Limbaži Municipality remigration grant programme.
Participants took part in a meditation session, a tea ceremony, and networking activities. Particular interest was sparked by the sauna experience created by the hosts – featuring a hot sauna and a cold water bath for the more adventurous participants. Many tried both the warmth of the sauna and the refreshing cooling procedures.
The artistic environment of the place was equally significant. On the first floor of the manor, visitors can view wooden artworks and sculptures created by Luis’s father. The sculptures are displayed both indoors and in the garden, creating a unique and colourful environment where each piece has its own story and symbolic meaning.
The hosts also shared their future plans. Currently, guests can stay overnight in two rooms available on-site, and there are plans to develop camping facilities in the future. The sea is located nearby and can be reached by bicycle or on foot, making this a particularly attractive destination for those who enjoy nature and peaceful отдых.
Participants especially appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality – guests were greeted with homemade cottage cheese cake and carefully prepared treats, creating a truly homely atmosphere.
The event series “Visiting the Returnees” will continue, offering opportunities to discover inspiring stories and meet people who are building new ideas, businesses, and communities in Vidzeme.
